Medieval style drawstring bagsroll your mouse over the thumbnails to see an enlarged image. Drawstring purses were very common for most periods. These are based on those seen in various publications, including the Museum of London's Dress Accessories. The white purse is made from a silk and wool mix reproduction fabric. The braids and tassels are hand dyed silk, with gilt gimp used for the turks' head knots. The side and top seams are tablet woven. The blue purse below was created for Luton Museums - all of the silk, including the silk-velvet, was hand dyed, the side and top seams have a braided edge, sewn directly to the fabric as it is made. |
