1620s silk chevron buttons

roll your mouse over the thumbnails to see an enlarged image.

These are reconstructions of buttons made for Ninya Mikhaila and Perth Museum. They, along with ribbon and braid were made to finish two reconstructions of a doublet in Perth Museum, along with a matching pair of breeches. The original doublet dates from the 1620s. The reconstructed suit formed part of an exhibition in 2007.

The buttons are silk covered wooden beads. The weave shows a distinct chevron pattern; this is achieved by interweaving a turks head in a continuous pattern. It is known in the passementerie trade as 'point de milan'.

Thanks to Ninya Mikhaila for allowing me to use images of the reconstructed suit. For more details of the making of the suit, and pictures, please visit Ninya's site.
