Laces and cordsThe word lace was originally used for a strong braided or woven string to tie together two items - the meaning can still be found in the word 'shoelace'. Laces and cords are also used as drawstrings, sewn onto items as decorative elements, as string for beads, and of course suspension cords for tassels. These can be made using a variety of techniques including weaving, braiding and plaiting, fingerloop braiding and cord-spinning. |
