Fingerloop Braids
This booklet gives background information about the use of fingerloop
braids during the fifteenth century, and discusses the BL ms Harley 2320,
which gives instructions for making these braids.
A lace dawns
Instructions with diagramatic drawings are given for three
braids - The round lace of five, the broad lace of five, and the lace
dawns; a two colour design.
Tablet Weaving: Narrow Girdles
This booklet describes the use of narrow girdles during the 15th century.
It discusses a girdle which was held at the Hunt Museum in Limerick (now
lost) and gives instructions for weaving a possible reconstruction, based
on photographic evidence.
Tablet Weaving: Fringe
This booklet describes the use of fringe during the medieval period and
gives instructions for tablet weaving, using four different methods, lengths
of fringe.
Medieval Book Decoration
This booklet describes book decoration based upon items supplied by 15th
century silkwomen to the Royal household. Instructions are given for making
a bookmark, incorporating a fingerloop braid, tassels, and knot-covered
button.
Tablet Weaving: Wide Girdles
This booklets describes the use of wide girdles during the 15th century.
It discusses various styles and evidence of this type of girdle, and gives
instructions for tablet weaving a girdle based upon the one worn by Margaret
Van Eyck in the portrait of her by her husband.
Medieval Textile Purses
This booklet discusses medieval textile purses, their uses, decoration
and styles. The emphasis is on those few found in the UK, however other
extant examples are given and discussed. The instructions given are for
a simple drawstring purse, and elements include how to make a tassel,
fingerloop braids for the handles and drawstrings and sewing and lining
the purse. The instructions are suitable for beginners in all techniques.
